Two letter books of Mr. Ince of the London mercantile firm of Messrs. Palmer, Mackillop, Dent & Company, recording his journey to the U.S. in 1847-1848 to examine investments and to settle claims against individual and business debtors. Correspondents include Ince's employers, his legal and financial advisers, and the debtors in America. Subjects include a financial crisis in London, the Union Bank of Florida at Tallahassee, the financial situation in Florida, North American Trust and Banking Company of New York, Bank of Darien in Georgia, Bank of Louisiana, South Western Railroad Bank of Charleston, S.C., New York and Erie Railroad, canals and economic conditions in Illinois and Indiana, Florida plantations, Charles Butler, James Gadsden, John G.
